INTERLUDE

I’m floating through space, weightless. The pain in my shoulder has miraculously vanished, despite the injury I suffered a few days before. Around me, I sense the Garden crowd, but though the people are cheering our championship victory, I can’t hear it. The world has gone silent. I sink into a pleasant, gentle feeling, falling deeper and deeper into a thickening mist—Celtic green. It’s cool and pleasant against my warm skin, beckoning me into the heart of sleep. This is good, I think; this is how it feels to be an NBA champion.
